Holland liberated - 31-03-45 Varsseveld. A Sherman Firefly tank in the streets of Varsseveld. This was the British response to the German Tiger and PANTHER tanks. It was re-gunned with a 17lb (76mm) gun, this was a rare vehicle and the crews did not survive very long, the Germans got wise and when they saw one they all focused their fire on it and the majority were destroyed. The British countered this by fitting sleeves that looked like stovepipes over the smaller gunned Shermans, but these developed bends when they were fired a lot.
